Puzzles

Compare puzzles by the work they ask for: assembling an image, fitting shapes into a space or solving a sequence of challenges. Piece count, storage and the clarity of the first task matter differently in each format.

Judge the image as well as the count

A jigsaw with distinct regions can offer more clues than a similarly sized image with repeated colors. Consider piece dimensions and how the child sorts, not just the advertised number. A familiar subject can help motivation without making the puzzle automatically easier.

Check how difficulty is introduced

A logic set may include graded challenges or a booklet that needs explaining. Preview the first task and how solutions are checked. Choose the kind of feedback the child enjoys, including whether a wrong attempt can be reset without dismantling a large arrangement.

Find a place for loose pieces

A work-in-progress picture may occupy a table for days; a compact puzzle may close into its own case. Check the actual storage arrangement before choosing for travel. Small pieces and younger siblings call for following the age guidance and arranging appropriate storage.
