An outdoor game built around aiming, not speed
This Franklin set includes eight 90 mm bocce balls, a 40 mm pallino and a carrying box. The small target creates a clear shared task: place a ball close to it and compare positions. For mixed ages, our suggested adaptation is a shorter throwing distance and turns with controlled underarm throws. That makes the format an alternative to another ride-on, but the size of the box does not establish the space needed to play. Choose a clear area with room to retrieve the balls and keep bystanders out of the throwing path.
- Best fit
- The family wants a shared lawn game with adjustable throwing distances.
- Skip it if
- The only available area is crowded, indoors or too close to fragile objects.
Consider these alternatives
Franklin Sports Throw N Stick Toss & Catch Set →
The child wants to throw and receive with a partner rather than practice a regulation sport setup.
Thames & Kosmos Weather & Climate Lab →
A child willing to revisit a location and keep a simple record of what changes.
A closer look at the trade-offs
The trade-off
Throw ’N Stick focuses on passing and catching between partners. Bocce allows a slower sequence of individual turns and a target that remains in place. Weather & Climate Lab is a better choice when the child wants an outdoor observation project instead of a throwing game.

After the wrapping comes off
These are firm balls, not soft indoor play balls. Carry and count the complete set after use, including the smaller target ball.
Set a short target distance and play one practice round without keeping score.
