A train gift that includes the railway commitment
The motorized train, remote, six figures, and 24 track pieces create an operating railway rather than a train model alone. Building and driving are separate parts of the gift. The layout needs its own floor space, and both train and remote need their power requirements checked before wrapping.
- Best fit
- Someone who wants construction followed by remote-controlled operation.
- Before buying
- Train and remote require batteries; check both before gifting. The track layout needs much more space than the train alone.
Consider these alternatives
BRIO World Cargo Railway Deluxe →
Operating transfers is the main interest and the layout can remain accessible between sessions.
BRIO My First Railway Beginner Pack →
The child is beginning with track connections, rather than already wanting a busy multi-route system.
A closer look at the trade-offs
The trade-off
BRIO Cargo Railway favors hands-on loading and wooden track play. The BRIO Beginner Pack is aimed at an earlier starting point. Choose the LEGO Express for someone who wants construction followed by remote-controlled operation.

After the wrapping comes off
No. The set includes a remote control. The LEGO Powered Up app is an optional control method; batteries are still required for the powered components.
