Read the verdict and alternativesOur take
A small cube for trying different tactile actions
Push-and-pull elements across the cube's sides give a child several ways to handle one contained object. That makes it more varied than a single row of identical presses without turning it into a puzzle. The broad age range should not be treated as universal appeal; enjoying this particular feel is the real fit question.
- Best fit
- The handheld shape and side-to-side exploration, not for a promised calming or therapeutic outcome.
- Before buying
- Sensory preferences differ; popping and pulling do not appeal to every child. Use the stated age guidance and adjust adult help to the child rather than expecting a particular learning outcome.
Consider these alternatives
Fat Brain Toys Dimpl →
A small contained tactile activity is the actual need.
Learning Resources Dottie the Fine Motor Cow →
Keeping the activity in one piece is more valuable than offering many loose-part possibilities.
A closer look at the trade-offs
The trade-off
Dimpl offers five bubbles in a flat frame. Dottie provides an animal-themed contained push-and-pull activity for younger children. Choose Tugl Cube for the handheld shape and side-to-side exploration, not for a promised calming or therapeutic outcome.
A suggested first play session
Choose one side and alternate pushing and pulling before rotating the cube.
